How to Build a One Product Shopify Store in 2026

Build a one product Shopify store in 2026: pick and price the product, choose a supplier, plan and free theme, add product video and run launch checks.

A one product Shopify store sells a single hero product, with the homepage and product page built around it. To build one, you pick and price the product, choose a supplier, set up a Shopify plan and a free theme, build a product page with video, and run Shopify's launch checks before you send traffic.

This guide is for merchants launching a first store or testing one product idea. Each step names the Shopify setting or source you need, with prices checked on October 17, 2026. For inspiration, browse our list of successful Shopify store examples.

Step 1: Choose and price the product

Identify a winning product

Look for an item that solves a specific problem or offers something competitors don't. A one product store has no second bestseller to fall back on, so this choice carries more weight than it does in a store with a full catalog.

Validate demand before you buy stock

Use Google Trends to see whether interest in the product is growing, flat or seasonal. Look at what competitors charge and how they present the product. Then ask potential customers, through a short survey or a social post, whether the product solves a problem they have.

Work out your margin per order

Calculate what you keep on each order after product cost, shipping, payment fees and returns. On Shopify's Basic plan, Shopify Payments charges 2.9% + 30¢ for online standard cards and 3.5% + 30¢ for premium cards, plus 1% for international cards, according to Shopify's pricing page (checked October 17, 2026). Add your expected ad cost per sale and check that the price still leaves a profit. Margin per order tells you more than the income figures quoted in dropshipping guides, which are usually anecdotal.

Step 2: Choose a supplier and fulfillment model

Dropshipping or holding inventory

Dropshipping means a supplier ships each order straight to your customer, so you never handle stock. It keeps upfront costs low and needs no storage. Holding inventory costs more at the start, but you control stock levels, packaging and shipping speed. If you want to build a brand around one product, move to holding stock once the product has shown it sells.

Whichever model you pick, order samples first. Check product quality, shipping time to your main market, and whether the supplier offers custom packaging.

Dropshipping apps in 2026

Oberlo, once the best-known Shopify dropshipping app, was discontinued and has been inaccessible since June 15, 2022, according to a Shopify Community thread. Before the shutdown, Shopify staff in that thread pointed Oberlo users to DSers and its migration tool, which is no longer a usable path. Options to look at:

  • AliExpress: a large catalog of products with flexible shipping options.
  • DSers: describes itself as an AliExpress integration with bulk order processing.
  • Spocket: suppliers offering fast-shipping products, often sourced locally.

Check each app's current listing and pricing in the Shopify App Store before you install it. For more places to source from, see our guide to finding dropshipping websites.

Step 3: Pick a Shopify plan and a free theme

Which Shopify plan to start on

Start on Basic and upgrade when you outgrow it. These are the prices listed on shopify.com/pricing on October 17, 2026:

  • Basic: $29/month billed yearly, or $39 billed monthly
  • Grow: $89/month billed yearly, or $105 billed monthly
  • Advanced: $359/month billed yearly, or $399 billed monthly
  • Plus: from $2,300/month

Prices vary by region, so check the page for your country. If you use a third-party payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a 2% transaction fee on Basic, on top of your provider's own fees. PayPal is exempt when Shopify Payments is your main provider, and so are POS orders and manual payments, according to Shopify's help center.

Shopify's free trial offer

On October 17, 2026, Shopify's pricing page advertised "Try 3 days free, then $1/month for 3 months." This is a promotion and it changes, so check the signup page on the day you start.

Choose a free theme: Dawn or Horizon

Dawn and Horizon are both free themes made by Shopify, and both support product videos. Their Shopify Theme Store pages also list image zoom, quick buy, a sticky header, an FAQ page, cross-selling and recommended products for both.

If you are starting fresh, pick Horizon. Shopify's help center describes themes with theme blocks, including the Horizon family, as its latest theme architecture. Dawn is still free and still receives updates.

Skip older themes recommended in outdated guides. According to Shopify's help center, Vintage themes are not available in the Theme Store, and Shopify's free Vintage themes receive only security fixes.

Add your product

In the Shopify admin, go to Products > Add product, enter the title and details, and click Save, as described in Shopify's help center. If you sell the product in several colors or sizes, add them as variants of the one product instead of creating separate products, so shoppers stay on a single product page.

Step 4: Build a product page that sells the one product

In a one product store, the product page does the work of a whole catalog, and many stores build the homepage as a sales page for the product too.

Write the description

Lead with the problem the product solves, then put specs, sizes and what's in the box in bullet points. Shopify's built-in AI assistant, Sidekick, can suggest product copy inside the admin, according to Shopify's launch checklist. Edit its draft so it sounds like you.

Add photos and video

  1. In the Shopify admin, go to Products and click your product.
  2. In the Media section, click Upload new or drag and drop files. Use Select existing for files already in your store, or Add from URL for a YouTube or Vimeo video.
  3. Drag your best image into the first position. Shopify uses the first media item as the product's featured image.
shopify media files

Each product can hold up to 250 images, 3D models or videos, per Shopify's help center. The same page caps videos per store at 250 on Basic, 1,000 on Grow and 5,000 on Advanced. Show the product from several angles and in use. A short demonstration video answers questions a photo can't. For what to film, see our guide to product videos in ecommerce.

When a product video doesn't show or upload

Shopify's product media page documents a fix for each of these:

  • The video uploaded but doesn't appear on the store: your theme must support video, or be modified to. Dawn and Horizon both support product videos.
  • A YouTube Shorts link is rejected: Shopify doesn't currently support Shorts URLs. Convert the link to the standard YouTube watch URL and add it again.
  • A processing error appears after upload: Shopify says the cause is usually how the file was encoded or exported. Re-export it in a widely used format and upload it again.
  • A video you removed from the product is still in your store: removing media from a product doesn't delete the file. Delete it in Content > Files.

Show TikTok and Instagram videos on the product page

If customers or creators already post about your product on TikTok or Instagram, those clips can go on the product page. Storista imports TikToks, Instagram Reels and uploaded videos into its Media Library; you choose which videos to import. You tag your product in each video, then place a widget such as Carousel or Stories with Shopify's theme editor, with no code. Videos are lazy-loaded, so they load only when they appear on screen.

Show reviews and customer content

A new one product store has little else to earn trust with, so reviews carry a lot of weight. Ask buyers for a review after delivery and invite photos or videos (user-generated content, or UGC). Review apps such as Loox or Yotpo display them on the product page.

Step 5: Run Shopify's launch checks

Before you send traffic, work through Shopify's general launch checklist. Items on it include:

  • Test a successful order, a failed transaction and a refund.
  • Preview your theme before you publish it.
  • Settle your URL handles now, because changing them later can affect SEO.
  • Choose your myshopify.com address carefully: you can change it only once.
  • Set up email sender authentication. Gmail and Yahoo require SPF or DKIM from all senders, and both plus DMARC from bulk senders, according to Gmail's sender guidelines.
  • Sort out taxes: tax compliance stays your responsibility even if you use Shopify Tax automated filing, according to Shopify's automated filing terms.

The same checklist says search indexing can take 48 to 72 hours, so don't judge search traffic in the first days.

Step 6: Drive traffic and bring buyers back

Start with one paid channel where your buyers spend time, such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads or TikTok Ads. A/B test your ad creatives: run two versions against each other and keep the one with more conversions. Post short videos of the product in use on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest, and work with creators in your niche.

Set up abandoned cart emails, which remind shoppers who left during checkout. Email apps such as Klaviyo can automate them. With one product, raise order value with a bundle or a premium version; Dawn and Horizon both list cross-selling as a theme feature. Our guide to conversion rate optimization covers more page changes to test.

Step 7: Measure what is working

Check your conversion rate (the share of visits that end in an order) in Shopify's analytics. Compare it with your own baseline from the first weeks, not with figures in other guides: some articles claim one product stores convert 1.5 to 2 times better than multi-product stores without naming a source.

Track margin per order next to revenue and average order value (AOV), the average amount spent per order. Use Shopify's reports or Google Analytics to see which channels bring visitors who buy. Change one thing at a time, such as the first image, the video or the price, and compare the results.

Your next step is the margin calculation from Step 1. When the numbers work, sign up for Basic and add your product. For apps by task, see our list of the best Shopify apps in 2026.
