What to check daily, weekly and monthly, what to change when a number moves, and what to do when something looks wrong.

Written by Irek Khasianov

One reminder before the routines: the attribution window (1, 7 or 30 days) is how long after seeing a video we keep counting a shopper's purchases. Pick it to match how far back you're looking, or recent days will look artificially weak.

Daily check — 30 seconds

Use the 1-day attribution window so today's data is already complete.

  • Impressions are in line with yesterday — if they dropped to zero, check the widget is still published

  • CTR hasn't fallen sharply — a sudden drop usually means a theme or placement change

  • No setup prompts or tracking warnings are showing

Don't read conversion rate or revenue day to day. The daily numbers are too small to be meaningful and will move for reasons that have nothing to do with your videos.

Weekly review — 5 minutes

Use the 7-day window and compare against the previous week.

  • Revenue per visitor for watchers vs non-watchers — is the gap holding?

  • Share of shoppers who saw a widget and then watched — your reach lever

  • Fullscreen open rate — trending up or down?

  • Top videos: which new upload is performing, which is being skipped

  • Add-to-cart clicks, if you have products tagged

Monthly review — 20 minutes

Use the 30-day window with a date range that ended at least a month ago, so the numbers have finished maturing.

  • Watcher vs non-watcher conversion rate and revenue per visitor — the headline result to report

  • Mobile vs desktop — are you optimising for where your shoppers actually are?

  • Fullscreen vs in-page — is the mix moving towards the higher-value surface?

  • Top and bottom videos — plan next month's content from both ends of the list

  • Widget placements worth adding, moving or removing

The one number to report. Revenue per visitor for watchers vs non-watchers, over a 30-day window, on a date range that has finished maturing.

What to do next

Few shoppers see your videos

A large gap between Widget loaded and Saw video content in the funnel means the widget sits too low on the page. Move it above the fold on your highest-traffic templates — usually the home page and product pages — and add it to collection pages.

Shoppers see your videos but don't play them

Low CTR is a thumbnail and framing problem. Lead with a person or the product in use, avoid text-heavy first frames, and keep the first second recognisable at thumbnail size. Reorder the carousel so your best-performing video comes first.

They play but don't finish

A low completion rate means the video is too long or too slow to start. Put the product in the first two seconds and cut everything before it.

Fullscreen opens are low

Fullscreen shoppers are worth considerably more per visitor. Make it obvious the video is tappable, and prefer placements shoppers naturally interact with over ones they scroll past.

Add to cart is empty

Tag products to your videos. Untagged videos can't produce add-to-cart activity, and tagging is usually the quickest improvement available.

Watchers convert well, but there are few of them

This is the best problem to have: the content works and reach is the constraint. Add more placements before making more videos.

A single video is far ahead of the others

Move it to your highest-traffic placement, and use it as the template for the next batch — same format, framing and length.

When numbers look wrong

Everything shows zero or a dash

Usually the widget isn't published, was removed from the theme, or sits on a page with little traffic. Check the widget is live and visible on your storefront.

"Not enough data yet"

Some comparisons need a minimum number of shoppers before they mean anything. Rather than show a figure based on a handful of visitors, we hide it until there's enough. Widening the date range often resolves it.

Recent days look worse than older days

Expected with the 7- or 30-day window: recent days haven't finished collecting purchases, which is why the end of the chart is dashed. Compare like-for-like periods, or switch to the 1-day window.

Totals differ from Shopify

Expected. Shopify counts by order date; we count by the day the shopper engaged with your video, plus your attribution window. Use Shopify as the source of truth for total revenue. See How Storista analytics works.

Average order value is lower for watchers

Normal. Video mostly affects how often shoppers buy, not how much they spend per order, so small differences in either direction are expected. Judge performance on revenue per visitor and conversion rate.

Numbers changed after I looked yesterday

Purchases keep being added to the day a shopper watched, for as long as your attribution window. Historical days older than the window don't change.

Common questions

How often does this update?

Impressions, clicks and watch time refresh through the day. The shopper comparisons and revenue figures are rebuilt once a day overnight, so they include everything up to yesterday.

What counts as "watched"?

Three seconds of playback, whether in-page or fullscreen.

Does this track individual people?

No. We use an anonymous browser identifier to connect a video view to a later order on the same store. No names, emails or personal details are stored, and nothing is shared between stores.

Which attribution window should I use?

1 day for checking today, 7 days for weekly reviews, 30 days for monthly reporting and considered purchases. Keep it consistent when comparing two periods.

I changed my widget placement — when will I see the effect?

Impressions and CTR react within a day. Conversion and revenue comparisons need about a week at the 7-day window, or a full month at 30 days, before they're worth reading.

Why can't I see some cards?

A card is hidden either because there isn't enough data for it to be meaningful yet, or because it isn't included in your plan. If it's a plan limit, the card tells you so.
